Gustav Teitge

Friday, 14 December 2018

In May of 2018, my wife Madelein and I decided to leave South Africa because of the political environment. We wanted a better life and education for our two children, Gustav Jr (13) and Danike (10).

We decided to move to New Zealand, and to Dunedin specifically, as we wanted a ‘climate shock experience’ (just kidding) because Gauteng province, where we come from, gets temperatures well into the mid-30’s. NZ was our first choice because of it is peaceful and has high international political standing. Combined with a comparable culture to SA and great education opportunities for our kids, it was a very easy decision to make to come here.

Gustav Jr will be able to enjoy the water sports he is so keen on (along with gaming and YouTubing – as most teens do these days). Danike would like to get back into ballet dancing once we’re settled, and persue her interest in arts and crafts.

Madelein is a master when it comes to bookkeeping and raising kids. She is currently working as a part-time administrator which gives her the flexibility to take care of kids’ errands in the afternoons.

Cementing a formal job offer with Vision allowed us to embark on the tedious skilled migrant visa application process but four months later we are happy to be living in the best city in NZ.

My 20+ years of professional audio industry experience is diversified across various market segments and includes business development, project sales, system design, project management, consulting, training and field engineering.

Prominent projects I have been involved with include:

  • Broadcast facilities for TV and radio – I worked on system design and sales for most of South Africa’s public and private broadcasters.
  • Audio production for film and music recording facilities – I designed and installed the only DOLBY ATMOS-approved film dubbing studios in South Africa.
  • Commercial and private cinemas – I designed, supplied and installed well over 100 cinema sound systems of which eight were DOLBY ATMOS-certified.
  • Houses of worship – I designed, supplied and installed more than 200 church systems, from small seating capacity up to 7500 seats.
  • Corporate and office space – I consulted, designed, supplied and installed a multitude of audio and video conferencing systems in some of the most prestigious executive boardrooms in the country.
  • Production and rental systems – I designed, supplied and assembled a multitude of touring and portable sound systems. This market sector also introduced me to systems engineering and calibration in the field and I had the opportunity to tour with quite a few prominent bands and music groups.

I feel honoured to have this opportunity to work for Vision. After various Skype interviews with company directors and employees I realised that the work ethic and culture here are very similar to my previous employer Wild and Marr, and that is the icing on the cake for me.
